SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

Our challenge is to reconcile the sustainable use of water resources with the pursuit of a healthy aquatic environment. Water is important not only for commercial purposes, but also for human wellbeing, recreation and health.

Luke is a key data producer, monitoring the health of fish stocks and promoting their viability. We also provide expert advice and policy support based on scientific evidence. We aim to promote sustainable fisheries through knowledge-based approaches and to reform the fisheries and aquaculture industry through research-based solutions.

In 2022, we participated in Baltic Sea Day, an annual celebration of the sea initiated by the John Nurminen Foundation. The event showcased research projects aimed at promoting the conservation of Baltic Sea species and marine areas, supporting the sustainable use of the sea and its resources, and safeguarding the biodiversity of the Baltic Sea.

In this section, we show how performance-based funding models can help address various environmental and fisheries management challenges. Through concrete actions, we can create better conditions for sustainable growth based on aquatic resources and responsible use of such resources.
